Skincare 101: Understanding Your Skin
Alrighty FaceTory Fam, a few days ago we talked about our skincare goals. Today, we wanted to share some tips to help you better understand your skin so you can reach those goals! This process can be tricky, so be patient. You won’t wake up one morning and be like, bam full-on confidence in your skin (how awesome would that be.) Still, there’s nothing wrong with taking care of your skin while accepting your skin! View it more as a journey that we’re all taking together! (cue High School Musical)
Here are our top 3 tips to help you out!
Pay attention to what you’re putting into your system
Whatever is going on in your body will reflect on the outside. So, if you’re eating unhealthy, chances are it will show up on your skin in various ways as well. Maybe through excess oils, blemishes, redness, etc. The first step to helping your skin is to take care of your body and feed it well! This is super important for your skin and overall health!
Pay attention to your environment
The skin takes on quite a lot if you really think about it. It’s your body’s protection/ security guard. Your skin has contact with the world around you. So, think about how your environment might be playing a role. Do you live in an area with a lot of pollution? Grab that detox mask! Maybe you live in a dry area. If that’s the case, hydrating and moisturizing masks are the way to go! Don’t overlook the role the environment can have on your skin!
Know what ingredients your skin likes and what ingredients it doesn’t like
This is going to be a little more difficult because a lot of the time, you don’t know what skincare ingredients you’re allergic to unless your skin actually has contact with that specific ingredient. It's definitely tricky, but our tip for this is to always, always, ALWAYS patch test new products when you incorporate them into your routine. Here's a blog on that!
Don't compare
Last but not least, don’t compare your skin. A product that works for one person doesn't necessarily mean it will work for you. So, always do your research and patch test new products before committing to them. And remember, if you feel like a product doesn’t work with your skin, don’t continue using it just to finish it. This may make your skin worse >.< If you feel like a product has damaged your skin barrier, here are our tips for helping your skin recover!
And on that note of comparing, we understand that with social media very prominent in our lives, it can be slightly difficult to well...not compare. But still, whenever you do start to compare yourself to others, catch yourself! Don’t let it go any further. This skincare journey is YOUR journey and remind yourself that there’s really no need to compare your skin (or yourself) to others
We hope these friendly reminders help you with your skincare journey! Thanks for reading and just keep glowing!
Love,
